Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary ~ A Day of Amateur Birding

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary & National Park, located in Haryana , just an hour's drive from the capital city Delhi is a birder's paradise!! In the winters, it is one of the favorite hangouts of the Delhi birders.
I visited the bird Sanctuary on a sunny winter morning along with the husband (and our apartment's society picnic group) and spent a wonderful day spotting birds & enjoying the calm surroundings.

The sanctuary is well protected by the State Government and has a separate area for picnickers. So, its great destination from Delhi to head off for the weekends with family or friends and enjoy nature.

The birds on offer(for view that is!!)

The Sanctuary is a big water denuded area with dense vegetation. We went up the watch tower and took vantage shot of the site at the beginning of our walk.

Being the landscape and nature lover that I am, I took more shots of the surroundings than taking notice of the birds.

Some humans trying to be birds :)

And then we spotted our first bird :)

We spotted a number of different birds throughout our walk, however, we were not able to click most of them as we did not have the right camera equipment (read lens) for birding!!!

Our day was made when we suddenly spotted great cranes flying overhead and I also managed a good enough shot (believe me people they were much closer over our heads than it seems in the picture!!!)

We spent a whole of 2.5 hours walking round the denuded water body and though our legs ached at the end of it, we were feeling refreshed and happy, with all the fresh air, scenery and bird spotting :)

The walk at Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary has started us (me and the husband) off on another quest ~ that of birding!! And we look forward to making more trips to bird sanctuaries(with the right equipment!!)

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary makes for a nice weekend break from Delhi in the winters, whether you are a birder or just looking for a day in the nature's lap without travelling too far away from the city.
