I am a sucker for Sunday brunches, whether be with the
husband, family or friends. I prefer to
combine good food, ambiance and great company on the most favorite day of the
week.
So, I was pretty excited when our Delhi Bloggers’ tablegroup was invited by Rose Café, a 30 cover restaurant located nearby the picturesque
Garden of Five Senses, Delhi. The
excitement factor was increased by the fact that one of our Delhi Table
blogger, Ruchira had visited this place before and had loved the pizzas and mezze
platter here.
So, me and the hubby landed up on a Sunday to the Café, some
of our blogger friends already having reached before us, so the friendly tone
already set.
The décor of the café was pretty with rose pink green and
white color décor. I was instantly charmed by the fake patina furniture, cute
little knickknacks, lace curtains and the lovely outdoor area. Alas, the turned
out to the only good thing about the café in the final roundup….and it was an
un-rosy Sunday Brunch for the bunch of us as it could get!!!
Interested? Read on!!....
After our initial appreciation of the décor & ambiance (Beatles
songs playing softly in the background) and our friendly banter, our group sat
down at a long table assembled for us. We
ordered some drinks to start with and the clueless waiters (in pink shirts) forgot
who ordered what and put them down on our table as per their whim or asked us
back if any of us ordered the drink in his hand , now how would I know if in a group
of 13 people, who exactly ordered the hot chocolate, if not me!!! That’s the
job of the service not me!!!!
Anyways, we all loved the peach iced tea, mint iced tea
infused with kafir leaves and the hot chocolate and ignored the lousy service.
We ordered our starters, pizzas and mains at one go after that..and after a while
the orders started arriving.
The good food
The pizzas were great, the beans in a bun was nice. However,
the eggplant parmigiano was yuck!!! And the chicken dishes were a disappointment.
The totally yuck eggplant parmigiano!!
And the big problem was that while some orders had arrived ,
others had not ….and it was taking hell lot of time!! The poor husband and some
of the people at the table had been waiting for a good 40 minutes for their
orders and there was still no sign of their food!!! Particularly, for myself, I
had ordered potato jackpot of which I saw no sign of….till very much later
(served along side desserts!!)
The owner, on being hinted the same, apologized and said
that it was possibly because they made everything fresh…A nice concept, except,
if one has a 30 cover café running, then one has to be prepared for catering to
the same number of people simultaneously and not keep people waiting unendingly long
time for their food!!
The desserts were total disappointment, all of them seemed to have been kept in the freezer, taking out and served cold. We had to really work hard to cut the cakes and brownies. The only exception was Waffles, which were fresh and yumm!!
The absolutely crap Desserts!! (proves that definitely looks can be deceptive!!)
By the time the desserts were finished, all of us at the
table just wanted to leave..the décor having no soothing effect on us anymore!!
It was totally disappointing Sunday Brunch for me and our
group!!
I definitely won’t be going back there for a brunch anytime
soon….yeah I might land up there for a glass of iced tea on my way back from
the Garden of Five Senses!!
So, totally not recommending Rose Cafe for brunch (or any full
fledged meal!!) but if u happen to be visiting Garden of Five Senses, drop in
if you are thirsty and looking for a chiller on your way back!!
