i am ...lord of the rings....

yes!!....i really feel like the lord of the rings..after having finally been able to finish the epic novel!!

am a voracious reader and uptil now, i hae devoured all types of books, novels and mgazines and articles..

but when i laid my hands on this book, i never knew this would actually consume me.....i spent a year reading this!!!...

lord of the rings is just not another novel or story, it is a journey....a journey full of characters in a place called middle earth......and as i read on..i became a part of the journey...for the first time i entered in to a story and not just read it as a reader...

and to those who have seen the movie and think its too long.....well..the movie is just the trailer......after reading the book, the movie seems too small and i can see why the director made three movies instead of one....and he still had to let go of a lot of portions of the story!!!

and at the end of the journey, im fully convinced that there does exist a place called middle earth where hobbits roams and elfs and dwarfs dwell....kudos to the JRR tolkien and the imagination of human mind!!

good post u have put here as usual....

i read the LOTR long time back... and watched all the 3 movies and after reading your feelings.. i feel i should take it up again and i know this time the feelings its going to incite will be a lot more different...

Tolkien stands out with his epic vision from others and as one rightly said.... "legends are born once in a millennium" ... he will stand out like a Pyramid of creation so tall and so strong that even the Pharoah's would have nodded their head in approval!!

I have seen all three parts of this fantastic movie series, but haven't touched the novel.

if you liked the trilogy..you would also love..
1. The Hobbit...which talks of how Bilbo got the ring
2. Silmarillion...which talks of how the rings were made

You have to read the other books too. =) Not only The Hobbit and Silmarillion but also The History of Middle-earth. It's JRR's son who has put the last one as well as Simarillion together from material that his father left unfinished. There are also two relatively new books that has been made in the same fashion, using unfinished material, but I haven't gotten my hands on them yet. The Children of Húrin and The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún.

I first read the books when I was 10 years old and I've read them many times since, I've also read them in 2 different languages (working on language #3 right now). Obsessed isn't really a good enough word for it. =) ... I've got all films on DVD too, double copies. I think the films are OK because I get to see the work of Alan Lee and John Howe become "real". I've admired their artwork for a long time and it's great to see how they make the films connect to the books in ways that Peter Jackson don't. I don't like how the films cut away parts and change the story in some major parts. But, I don't like movies in general so it's only natural around me.

I feel a fellowship with the hobbits: my birthday is the same as Frodo's and Bilbo's.

It's been a long time since I read it. I still prefer the book to the films.

When the books were first published I would see people reading one of them while the next was sticking out of a back pocket or backpack. This not to loose any of the story going to the next book, and to provide a smooth transition.
Then you would give the just-read book to another
